Job summary

The YMCA of Western North Carolina is hiring an Afterschool Counselor II to supervise elementary students in our after-school program in Asheville, NC. You will lead activities, support academic growth, and foster a safe, inclusive environment from 2:00–6:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities include following program plans, communicating with families, and ensuring safety and engagement. This is a part-time role with hours varying by the program needs.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or teens required.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups.

Responsibilities

• Supervise elementary-school participants in after-school program.
• Provide homework support and promote academic progress.
• Follow lesson plans and tailor activities to each child’s needs.
• Create a nurturing environment that supports positive play and learning.
• Maintain open communication with supervisor and parents.
• Keep accurate records and respect privacy and confidentiality.
