Job summary

Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service, Inc is seeking an Education Assistant to support after-school programs at PS 149 Danny Kaye ELM School in Brooklyn. The position is part time, hourly, Monday through Friday 2:15 pm – 6:00 pm during the school year, with holiday camp hours when the DOE is closed, and involves supervising a class of 20–30 students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required; education field preferred.
• Experience working with children/youth; enjoy working with kids.
• Flexible to work across afterschool programs to provide coverage.
• Computer savvy; comfortable with video conferencing and email.
• Current or former licensed teacher a plus.
• Background in arts or sports coaching a plus.

Responsibilities

• Deliver hands-on, project-based lessons aligned with the thematic curriculum.
• Submit lesson plans for approval according to schedule.
• Plan lessons for field trips and supervise students during trips.
• Participate in trainings and professional development.
• Use innovative teaching strategies to boost literacy, SEL, arts, and STEM.
• Collaborate with site director and staff to plan culminating events.
• Engage with parents and families as required by the site director.
• Supervise 20 students during classroom activities and transitions.
• Monitor parent/guardian pickups for safety and compliance.
• Direct and work with the assistant teacher.
• Participate in agency meetings and funding proposal discussions.
• Other tasks as assigned.
