Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Plan, teach and evaluate student work and provide instruction.
• Deliver IET programming combining adult basics with workforce development.
• Assist students with resumes and job applications.
• Administer and interpret HiSET/TABE for placement and instruction.
• Maintain confidential files and proper attendance records.
• Collaborate with corrections staff to support student progression.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Program Director.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Northwest is accepting applications for a part-time Adult Education Corrections Instructor for Dyer and Lake County Jails. The successful candidate will provide high-quality instruction, support student learning, and maintain a positive classroom environment. The position places significant emphasis on teaching, evaluating student progress, helping students develop employability skills, and assistance with job placement, college, or technical program enrollment.

RREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
• Office Skills: Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Power Point, Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.) as well as the ability to use other computer software
• Experience in adult education or related field, preferred.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with jail staff.
• Ability to manage deadlines and work in a team-oriented environment.
• Commitment to using technology in the teaching and learning process and staying current with instructional technologies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan, teach and evaluate student work, and provide instruction.
• Deliver contextualized Integrated Education and Training (IET) programming, combining adult basic skills with workforce development.
• Assist students with resumes and job applications.
• Administer and interpret scores on HiSET and TABE exams for student placement and instruction.
• Organize and maintain confidential program and student files and report documentation, including maintaining correct student sign-in sheets.
• Work with corrections staff to develop a program that supports students' progression.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Program Director.
