Job Summary | The Evergreen State College seeks a part-time faculty member with professional experience in health care delivery and administration who is interested in teaching Core Medical Terminology. The course is an overview of essential medical terminology tailored for students entering the field of health administration. Students will learn to: 1) Analyze and construct medical terms using fundamental word-building principles, 2) Apply anatomical, diagnostic, and procedural terminology accurately in healthcare contexts, 3) Demonstrate effective communication including terminology usage in policy documents and care coordination, and 4) Use terminology appropriately, ethically, and inclusively across diverse healthcare settings and specialties. The course is part of a certificate program in Health Administration: Policy and Organizational Management offered through Evergreen's school of Professional and Continuing Education. The certificate provides introductory to intermediate-level education for current public sector health employees as well as students seeking new career opportunities. The school for Professional and Continuing Education provides transformative education for part time students, working adults, and lifelong learners. Drawing on Evergreen's tradition of innovative curricular design and collaborative learning communities, it offers bachelor's degree curriculum and stackable certificates that combine theory with practice to help students achieve academic goals, advance their careers, and create a better world. Job Expectations | The part-time faculty member hired for this position is expected to teach one or more courses in an online mode with synchronous (real-time) zoom sessions. The online class sessions will be held one night a week (TBD) starting at 6 pm. This is a remote position that does not require teaching on our physical campus in Olympia, Washington. However a condition of employment is that you have residency in one of the following states: California, Oregon, New York, Texas, or Washington State and teach remotely from that state. Evergreen uses narrative evaluations in lieu of grades and faculty are generally responsible for evaluating 25 students/quarter in each class. Faculty are also responsible for advising students as they reflect on their learning process, develop a pathway of study, and formulate their own areas of concentration. As part of our interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning, we are interested in helping all students develop strong skills in critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and communication across significant differences. Over 80% of our students come from underserved and marginalized groups, and we are particularly invested in approaches to teaching that emphasize diversity and equity, that provide opportunities for challenge and growth, and that foster a learning environment where all students feel welcome and can learn from one another. Evergreen's adjunct faculty positions and are not eligible for continuing appointment, but successful candidates may be rehired annually. All requirements for these positions must be completed at the time of hire.
