Job summary

Flatbush Development Corporation in Brooklyn seeks an Activity Specialist to design, implement, and facilitate engaging activities for students in grades K–8 within a school-based afterschool program.

You will supervise participants, support youth development, and promote social-emotional learning while aligning with DYCD, DOH, and DOE guidelines. The role emphasizes creativity, teamwork, and project-based achievement.

Part-time role up to 15 hours per week, paying $20–$25 per hour.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Education, Youth Development, Child Development, or related field.
• Experience designing and facilitating structured activities for children in K–8.
• Knowledge of youth development principles, social-emotional learning, and trauma-informed practice.
• Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and maintain a positive, professional demeanor.
• Required certifications: CPR/First Aid (or willingness to obtain), and OCFS/DYCD training compliance.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver structured, hands-on activities for students in K–8 within a school-based program.
• Facilitate Arts, STEM, Literacy, Recreation, and Enrichment Activities that promote engagement and creativity.
• Plan activities that culminate in projects or performances to celebrate student achievement.
• Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment and supervise participants during activities.
• Apply trauma-informed practices and culturally responsive strategies to engage students effectively.
