Job summary

Miami University seeks a part-time, temporary Professional Tutor to provide tutoring, guidance, and mentoring to undergraduate students in both office and online settings.

The role focuses on developing individualized tutoring plans, teaching study strategies, and supporting distance-learning components within the department. Relevant tutoring experience is preferred, with strong communication and organizational skills essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts earned by date of employment; tutoring/teaching experience preferred.
• Experience working with a wide variety of students with academic risk factors is a plus.
• Ability to explain concepts clearly and model effective study strategies.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one or group tutoring to students in office or online.
• Develop tutoring plans to fit each student’s needs.
• Assist with developing study strategies and executive functioning.
• Make notes and communicate with instructors about student progress per department policies.
• Operate computer and resources to tutor on-site or remotely.
• Be accessible to students seeking help and complete required paperwork.
• Assist with facilitating distance learning in classroom settings.
• Support students in developing college success skills and serve as a case-manager for high-support students.
