ROLE SUMMARY

Regents School of Austin seeks a Visual Art Teacher for 7th and 8th grade – Part-Time. The Visual Arts teacher must be a committed Christian who appreciates classical art and is committed to helping improve and build our distinctly classical art program. The individual must have strong interpersonal skills to retain, recruit, and inspire student artists in the visual art program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ideal candidates align themselves with our Philosophy of Art Education, which approaches teaching visual arts from a classical perspective:

• Classical pedagogy and backward design
• Traditional methods of drawing, painting, printmaking, and hand building
• Age-appropriate mentorship and classroom management

SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters preferred
• Display design and framing experience
• Experience shepherding and developing meaningful mentoring relationships with students in middle school
• At least three years of relevant classroom experience; experience with classical education or atelier training preferred
• Christian maturity that demonstrates a desire to learn and a capacity to create a healthy classroom environment
• Experience in the development of a program in a private school setting
