Job description

The City of Onalaska is seeking to hire a Parks Technician and Lead Parks Technician. These are considered Limited Term Employment positions. Scheduled hours may vary. An employee in these positions are responsible for a variety of tasks related to the maintenance, repair and improvement of park and recreation facilities. Work is performed according to established guidelines and reviewed by the Parks Manager.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs maintenance duties in parks, recreational facilities, restrooms, and athletic fields. Tasks could include but are not limited to mowing, irrigating, cleaning, and general landscape.
  • Prepares and maintains parks, recreation facilities, and athletic fields for various recreational programs and seasons.
  • Removes snow and ice from parking lots, walkways and park roads, floods and maintains ice skating rinks.
  • Maintains records and submit reports on maintenance activities.
  • Performs duties specific to department as assigned by supervisor and also contributes to a cooperative working effort by demonstrating a willingness to perform other job-related work as needed or requested.
  • Other duties as requested or required.

Lead Parks Technician:In addition to the above, also responsible to:

  • Assists in leading a crew in the maintenance duties in parks, recreational facilities, restrooms, and athletic fields. Tasks could include but are not limited to mowing, irrigating, cleaning, and general landscape.
  • Assists in the training of seasonal/limited term employees in tasks or in the use of equipment.

Compensation:Wage range for these seasonal, limited-term positions is $13.00 to $18.00 per hour depending on qualifications, budget and/or position. Flexible scheduling available. There are no benefits associated with limited-term positions.
