About this Opportunity
Directs and supervises the work of parks maintenance crew within parks and recreation operations.

The City of Cedar Rapids does not offer sponsorship for employment authorization.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes and supervises the maintenance activities of the parks and recreation and specialty parks
  • Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations
  • Operates, maintains, trains, and supervises on the use of various motorized and non-motorized turf and grounds
  • Installs and repairs park site amenities; conducts preventive maintenance and ensures all safety inspections are completed
  • Oversees and monitors inventory management and reconciles purchases supplies, equipment, tracks inventories on products and services
  • Analyzes turf and landscapes to detect disease, wear and stress, and determines appropriate treatment and coordinates appropriate maintenance schedule
  • Coordinates logistics and communicates on special events and procedures including set up, tear down, trail prep for races, clean up for concerts, conducting repairs and other requests as necessary
  • Performs related work as required

Required Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in maintenance, construction, plumbing, electrical, turf management, budgeting and personnel supervision or
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population
Required Licenses or Certifications
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License
  • Iowa Pesticide Applicator’s License (within 6 months of appointment)
Desired Qualifications
  • Supervisory experience
  • Post-secondary course work in a related skilled trade, horticulture, turf, forestry, natural resources or a related field

Work Schedule

  • Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
