Job summary

City of Broken Arrow is seeking a park maintenance worker to perform ground and turf maintenance, custodial duties, irrigation, and equipment operation in municipal parks.

The role requires reading/writing, basic math, physical stamina, and a valid Oklahoma class D driver's license; pesticide applicator license or pool operator permit is also required. This is a safety-sensitive position with drug testing.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
• One to two years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and training.
• Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oklahoma class D driver's license for the vehicle/equipment operated.
• Possession of pesticide applicator license or pool operator's permit as required.

Responsibilities

• Ground and trail maintenance duties: mowing, trimming, debris removal, leaf removal, litter removal.
• Athletic turf maintenance: aeration, topdressing, field painting, turf maintenance (natural and synthetic).
• Facility maintenance: shelters, aerators, playgrounds, site furnishings, aquatic facilities, sport courts.
• Operate small power equipment: weed eater, chainsaw, blower, edger, auger, tools.
• Operate medium to large equipment: mower, tractor, dump truck, skid loader, spray/paint machines.

This position is responsible for performing park maintenance duties.

*This position performs duties deemed to be “safety sensitive" and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City’s policies*

• Participates in one of the following assigned work sections:
  1. ground and trail maintenance activities, including mowing, trimming, seeding/sodding, debris removal, leaf removal, and litter removal.
  2. athletic turf maintenance activities, including aeration, topdressing, field painting, natural and synthetic turf maintenance.
  3. facility maintenance activities related to shelters, aerators, playgrounds, site furnishings, aquatic facilities, and sport courts.
• Operates small power equipment including weed eater, chainsaw, blower, edger, auger, and power hand tools.
• Operates medium to large equipment including mower, tractor, dump truck, skid loader, paint machine, stump grinder, woodchipper, aerial truck and sprayer.
• Participates in custodial and litter removal duties.
• Performs routine irrigation operation and maintenance tasks.
• Oversees community service workers.
• Performs chemical applications as assigned.
• Assists with ice and snow removal duties.
• Assists with installation of warning devices at work sites.
• Participates with small concrete installations.
• Performs duties of the Crew Leader in their absence.
• Performs routine equipment maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Maintains daily work records as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requires an ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations, supplemented by one to two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid class D driver's license issued by the state of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a pesticide applicator license issued by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture or a pool operator’s permit.

Tasks involve the ability to exert forceful physical effort in heavy work, typically involving some combination of balancing, climbing, crawling, and crouching, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, walking and some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of heavy weight (up to 150 pounds). Must submit to drug screening and fitness to work physical.
