Job Description

Position Function - Under the direction of the Director of Parks & Recreation and/or Designee, performs duties to support the Parks Maintenance Division, ensuring proper maintenance of City parks, grounds, green spaces, athletic fields, and common areas for City-owned property and/or facilities, providing a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment. This position requires working Fridays & Mondays from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Saturdays & Sundays from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Essential Duties
  1. Maintenance and Care (80%): Performs duties necessary to maintain, repair, and care for City parks, grounds, green spaces, right-of-ways, ponds, swells, berms, athletic fields, and other public areas, including planting, pruning, mulching, irrigation, mowing, weeding, edging, and painting. Responsible for the safe use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  2. Event Support (15%): Prepares for events by constructing and deconstructing fencing, barricades, chairs, and stages. Includes setup and teardown tasks, cleaning buildings and restrooms, and moving office furniture.
  3. Additional Duties (5%): Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical activities include balancing, bending, carrying, climbing, crouching, fine dexterity, foot controls, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching, standing, sitting, stooping, twisting, vision, walking, and talking. The work is primarily outdoors, with exposure to hazards such as electrical, chemical, water, vibration, noise, weather, dust, and allergens.

Tools and Equipment

Uses heavy equipment, power tools, mowers, tractors, safety gear, and work aids as needed for maintenance tasks.

Requirements, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Requires a High School diploma or GED, with 1-3 years of related experience in landscaping or grounds maintenance. Must demonstrate attention to detail, safety, and professionalism. Ability to communicate effectively, establish good relationships, follow instructions, and work under high demands, including weekends and evenings. Skilled in operating mowers, tools, and equipment. Must possess a valid Class C driver license and pass all pre-employment screenings, including drug tests, physical exams, and background checks.
