The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a Parks Maintenance Worker I/II to perform maintenance duties at various city locations, including the swim center and parks. The role involves general grounds maintenance, pool operations, and equipment handling. Ideal candidates will have experience in landscape maintenance and pool care, with a commitment to safety and public interaction.
The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking to fill one (1) vacancy at the Parks Maintenance Worker I or II level, based on the candidate's experience and qualifications. This recruitment may also be used to fill future vacancies within the next 12 months. The position will primarily be assigned to the Petaluma Swim Center, but candidates with general knowledge of parks, landscapes, irrigation, and turf care maintenance are encouraged to apply. Experience in pool maintenance and possession of a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certificate are highly desirable.

Perform landscape, park, and pool maintenance duties at various city locations including the swim center and parks.
Supervised by a higher-level manager, with potential indirect supervision of support staff.
Parks Maintenance Worker I: Entry-level, learning and performing basic park and tree maintenance duties.
Parks Maintenance Worker II: Fully competent in performing a full range of park and landscape maintenance duties, distinguished from Lead Worker by the level of supervision provided.
Equivalent to high school graduation plus relevant experience or coursework in horticulture or landscape maintenance. Specific experience levels vary between Worker I and II. Valid California Class C driver’s license required; certifications such as Qualified Applicator or Certified Pool Operator are desirable.
Regular use of hands, standing, walking, sitting, occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and smelling. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception. Heavy physical labor and exposure to outdoor weather, chemicals, and noise are expected.
