Job summary

Town of Moraga is seeking a full-time Maintenance Worker for the Parks Maintenance Division to perform general labor, maintenance, and repair tasks in parks, public spaces, and open areas. Weekend prep, clean-up, and special events may require availability in the evenings.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, a valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record, and CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it through Town-sponsored training.

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of construction, maintenance, and repairs in parks and public works.
  • Familiar with mechanical equipment and tools used in maintenance.
  • Basic carpentry, plumbing, and painting techniques.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and occupational hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform entry-level maintenance and repair tasks in parks and public spaces.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment safely.
  • Assist with events setup and clean-up, including picnic areas.
  • Follow written and oral instructions and work with minimal supervision.

Description

The Town of Moraga is hiring a full-time maintenance worker in its Parks Maintenance Division.The Maintenance Worker position performs a variety of entry-level and unskilled labor, maintenance and repair tasks, including manual labor in parks, landscaped public areas, and open space.Weekend availability is at times required for picnic area prep, general park clean-up, and special events.



  • Most hours will occur during maintenance operation hours: Saturday through Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.

  • Evening hours are required for special events and will be scheduled accordingly.

  • After-hours emergencies in the evening or on weekends may require availability.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:


  • Methods and techniques of general construction, maintenance, and repair related to parks maintenance, public works maintenance and building maintenance.

  • Operational characteristics of mechanical equipment and tools used in parks maintenance, public works maintenance and building maintenance.

  • Basic techniques of carpentry, plumbing, and painting.

  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.

  • Construction principles and practices.


Ability to:


  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Be flexible to work a varied schedule including weekends and evenings.

  • Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

  • Operate a variety of vehicles and stationary mechanical equipment safely and effectively

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

  • Organize, prioritize and follow up on work assignments

  • Work independently with minimal supervision, an as part of a team.


Education and Experience

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Generally, this will require:



  • Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.


License or Certificate


  • A valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment. Valid CPR and First Aid Certification or be willing to obtain certification through Town-sponsored training.
