Job summary

The City of Broken Arrow is seeking a park maintenance worker to perform a variety of grounds and facility maintenance tasks. You will mow, trim, seed or sod, remove debris and litter, and help with turf management for athletic fields.

Routine equipment operation, irrigation maintenance and custodial duties are part of the role. The position requires reading and basic math, 1–2 years of related experience (or equivalent), and a valid Oklahoma Class D driver’s license or ability to obtain one.

Qualifications

  • Reading, writing and basic math required.
  • 1–2 years related experience preferred or equivalent education/training.
  • Valid Class D Oklahoma driver's license or ability to obtain.
  • Possession of pesticide applicator license or pool operator permit.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain grounds and trails (mowing, trimming, debris removal, litter removal).
  • Perform athletic turf maintenance and field painting.
  • Maintain shelters, playgrounds, and site furnishings; assist with aquatic facilities and sport courts.
  • Operate small and medium equipment (weed eater, chainsaw, forklift-like gear, mower, tractor, dump truck).
  • Assist with irrigation, custodial tasks, and routine equipment maintenance.
  • Oversee community service workers and document daily work records.
  • Observe safety policies; participate in random drug testing.

Job description

Location: 6000 Parks & Recreation
Pay Grade: A03
FLSA Status: Non-exempt

This position is responsible for performing park maintenance duties.

*This position performs duties deemed to be “safety sensitive" and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City’s policies*

  • Participates in one of the following assigned work sections:
    1. ground and trail maintenance activities, including mowing, trimming, seeding/sodding, debris removal, leaf removal, and litter removal.
    2. athletic turf maintenance activities, including aeration, topdressing, field painting, natural and synthetic turf maintenance.
    3. facility maintenance activities related to shelters, aerators, playgrounds, site furnishings, aquatic facilities, and sport courts.
  • Operates small power equipment including weed eater, chainsaw, blower, edger, auger, and power hand tools.
  • Operates medium to large equipment including mower, tractor, dump truck, skid loader, paint machine, stump grinder, woodchipper, aerial truck and sprayer.
  • Participates in custodial and litter removal duties.
  • Performs routine irrigation operation and maintenance tasks.
  • Oversees community service workers.
  • Performs chemical applications as assigned.
  • Assists with ice and snow removal duties.
  • Assists with installation of warning devices at work sites.
  • Participates with small concrete installations.
  • Performs duties of the Crew Leader in their absence.
  • Performs routine equipment maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Maintains daily work records as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requires an ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations, supplemented by one to two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid class D driver's license issued by the state of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a pesticide applicator license issued by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture or a pool operator’s permit.

Tasks involve the ability to exert forceful physical effort in heavy work, typically involving some combination of balancing, climbing, crawling, and crouching, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, walking and some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of heavy weight (up to 150 pounds). Must submit to drug screening and fitness to work physical.
