Parks Maintenance Technician - Projects Crew

The mission of the Evergreen Park & Recreation District is to improve the quality of life of the Evergreen community by providing a wide range of excellent, financially responsible park and recreation amenities and programs while maintaining and enhancing the area's mountain character.

Hourly Wage:

$23.36 -$32.93 hourly

Hiring Range $ 23.36- $25.75 DOE

Nature of Work

Under the direction of Park Operations Manager and Park Operations Supervisor, this position performs general site maintenance and completing projects of park and field areas. This could include but is not limited to fence repairs at ball fields, irrigating repair, installing new playgrounds, building restrooms and public shelters, building new sidewalks, ground work for new park amenities, building dugouts, equipment maintenance. Willing to complete assignments during inclement weather and work assigned weekend, evenings, and holidays may be required.

Essential Functions

· Fence repairs at ball fields.

· Installing new playgrounds

· Building restrooms and public shelters,

· Building new sidewalks and trails.

· Ground work for new park amenities.

· Building new dugouts.

· Inspect parks and assist in the enforcement of rules.

· Comply with all safety standards of the district and position.

· Must possess a highly defined focus towards both internal and external guest service.

· Other duties as assigned.

Illustrative Examples of Duties

· Set up project planning and acquire materials to complete project.

· Majority of the work is performed outdoors and may be exposed to extreme cold, heat, wet, snow, humid or icy conditions.

· Perform all required duties in a timely fashion.

Skills

· Ability to safely and effectively use a variety of tools including loaders, skid steers, tractors, tool cats

· Ability to use Shovels, pick axes, rakes, grub hoes, rock bars, pruning shears and saws, weed whip

and various hand tools.

Knowledge

· Thorough knowledge of projects, permit standards, an d operation of equipment.

· Knowledge to maintain and safely operate equipment.

Abilities

· Strenuous hiking and movement of heavy objects like rocks, trees and dirt. This includes stooping, bending, pushing and lifting up to 75 lbs.

· Ability to operate equipment and tools safely around team members and park users.

· Ability to recognize problems and effectively work independently or with others in the Parks team to reach a viable solution.

Required Training, Experience & Qualifications

· Current CPR/first aid certification or receive within six months of hire.

· Completion High School Diploma or equivalent with 3 years’ experience in outdoor maintenance totaling approximately 430 hours of experience per year.

· Must possess current driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

· Must be 21 years of age or older

· Experience in one or more of the following is strongly preferred:

  • Landscaping/Hard-scaping
  • Mechanical Abilities
  • Equipment Operation
  • Snow Plowing
  • Irrigation Abilities
  • Turf Management
  • Playground Installation
