The City of MurphyParks & Recreation Departmentseeks to add aParks Maintenance Technician Ito its dynamic team!Under the direction of the Parks Maintenance Supervisor, the Parks Maintenance Technician I performs routine and repetitive tasks to maintain and beautify the parks and trees, street medians, right-of-ways, ditches, and other city facilities in the City of Murphy.
For application support, or to check the status of your application, contact Human Resources by e-mailinghr@murphytx.org.- Operates commercial landscape and turf care equipment to include line trimmers, stick edger, zero turn radius lawn mowers, tractors, weed-eaters, augers, tillers, tree spades, chippers, stump grinders, welders, chain saws, various hand tools, vehicles, and other light to heavy equipment
- Plants, cultivates, fertilizes, trims, prunes, and removes trees, shrubs, flowers, etc.; selects and shapes trees; treats for insects; and waters and mulches trees, shrubs, and seasonal beds
- Applies herbicides, insecticides and pesticides, under direct supervision of a licensed applicator; calibrates and maintains spraying systems; interprets labels; and keeps an inventory of chemicals and applications performed
- Collects and disposes of trash in mowing areas, right-of-way areas, median areas, parks and city buildings
- Maintains and inspects playground and park equipment regularly and documents repairs
- Prepares and maintains athletic facilities during seasonal periods, installing and removing goals and nets, and maintaining athletic equipment and supplies
- Performs regular inspections and preventative maintenance (including washing, checking and servicing) on all equipment, vehicles, and facilities
- Assists in making preparation and clean-up for special events and functions
- Prepares flower beds, works in trenches and tight or enclosed areas; walks through brushes or entangled areas along creeks, ditches, and other area
- Works safely in close proximity to high-speed vehicle traffic along medians, right-of-way, and other city property
- Adheres to personnel, safety, and department policies and procedures
- Informs Parks Superintendent of potential hazards, problem areas, and inquiries of the general public and work activities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- A valid Texas Class C Driver's License - driving record must be in compliance with City policy
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Minimum of one (1) year of related commercial landscape, turf care, irrigation systems, equipment operation and maintenance experience
- Possession of a Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) Certified Pesticide Applicator license.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS- May be required to lift up to one hundred (100) pounds of equipment multiple times per day
- May work evenings and weekends as needed
