Job summary

City of Forney is seeking a dependable Parks Maintenance Technician I to join our Parks & Recreation team. This role performs a variety of park maintenance tasks including grounds keeping, irrigation, repairs, and basic construction to keep parks and athletic spaces safe and inviting.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license, and a willingness to perform unskilled to skilled work outdoors. No prior experience required; training provided.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of duties including litter removal and custodial tasks such as sweeping, mopping, event setup/removal, and maintaining park facilities and equipment.
• Irrigates, mows, weeds, and trims lawns and landscaped areas, plants and maintains vegetation, and trims bushes.
• Assists with athletic field preparation and maintenance; repairs irrigation systems; adjusts schedules as needed; clears debris from walkways and facilities.
• Performs basic construction, carpentry, plumbing, and painting tasks; cleans/restocks bathrooms; disposes of waste; troubleshoots minor electrical issues.
• Installs and inspects playground equipment and related park features; refers issues to appropriate staff for further attention.
• Operates equipment used in park maintenance (mowers, light tractors, dump trucks, loaders).
• Identifies hazards or maintenance needs and documents them; maintains records.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Are you ready to work outdoors and help keep our parks, athletic fields, trails, and public spaces safe, clean, and beautiful? The City of Forney is seeking a dependable and hardworking Parks Maintenance Technician I to join our Parks & Recreation team.

This position will perform a variety of unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled tasks in the construction, repair, and maintenance of park and open space facilities, structures, and grounds, and perform related duties as required.

• Performs a variety of duties which may include, litter removal and custodial duties such as sweeping, mopping, assisting with special and holiday event setup and removal, and maintaining and repairing parks facilities and equipment.
• Irrigates, mows, weeds, and trims lawns and landscaped areas; plants, waters, and maintains various vegetation such as bushes, trees, flowers, shrubs, and lawns; trims and prune bushes.
• Assists with preparation and maintenance of athletic fields and related facilities; repairs and replaces irrigation systems; modifies irrigation schedules as necessary; clears debris from walkways, paths, and other parks/recreational facilities.
• Performs basic construction, carpentry, plumbing, and painting tasks; cleans and re-stocks bathroom facilities; properly disposes of brush trimmings, rubbish, paper, and trash; troubleshoots and makes minor electrical repairs to light fixtures, ballasts, outlets, and related equipment.
• Installs, inspects, and repairs playground equipment and other related parks/recreational equipment; refers to appropriate staff for further attention.
• Operates various equipment involved in the maintenance of parks, including mowers, light tractors with attachments, dump trucks, front-end loaders, and other tools and equipment.
• Identifies and resolves or reports hazards; maintains maintenance records.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: No direct supervision exercised.
