Job summary

City of Sioux City Parks Maintenance Department invites applications for a Gardner. The role directs crews handling tree, turf, and nursery work, designs planting plans, and maintains landscaped areas including a rose garden and greenhouse.

Qualifications

• Graduation from standard high school, GED equivalent or related trade school; experience in nursery/greenhouse preferred and supervisory capacity.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee work of crews in tree, turf and nursery tasks.
• Plant and maintain landscaped areas, rose garden, greenhouse and displays.
• Conduct soil tests and diagnose diseased plants; plan corrective actions.
• Inspect trees/shrubbery for infection and prescribe remedial action.
• Maintain inventory of materials and place replacement orders.
• Assign tasks and supervise staff in planting, maintaining landscaping and greenhouse.
• Maintain buildings and grounds and design special plant displays.
• Respond to citizen questions and assist as needed.
• Perform duties during emergencies as required.
