Job summary

Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community's SMSC Public Works seeks a Parks Heavy Equipment Operator to keep community parks safe and attractive. You will operate heavy landscaping and construction equipment, perform maintenance and repair of gear, and assist with snow removal and trash pickup.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED.
• Two years' experience operating commercial landscaping and heavy construction equipment.
• Class A CDL Driver's License (preferred) - training provided by SMSC within 1 year of hire.
• Two years' experience in landscape construction and maintenance.
• Ability to work in a wide range of climate temperatures.
• Proficiency in maintaining safety while handling fumes, chemicals, odors, and/or noise.
• Physical ability to perform duties with or without accommodations.
• Capable of lifting up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to move in bending, squatting, crawling, kneeling, twisting, pulling, and/or pushing.

Responsibilities

• Operates all heavy landscaping and construction equipment for large-scale landscaping, snow removal, and operational functions.
• Maintains all community parks including the maintenance and repair of equipment.
• Removes snow and ice from walks and driveways (seasonal).
• Assists with the pickup and removal of trash.
• Completes maintenance and repairs of asphalt on community streets and roadside cleanup.
• Maintains street signs and outdoor striping of parking lots, garages, and roadways.
• Performs preventative maintenance inspections and ensures safety devices are in working order on heavy equipment.
• Responds to complaints of stray or dangerous animals; assists in recovery of animals.
• Performs work for special events including grounds maintenance, garbage control, pest control and vendor setup/teardown.
• Assists other departments in special projects.
