Parks Facilities Maintenance Technician I

The City of Lenexa Parks and Recreation department is currently seeking a motivated individual with a passion for public service to join us as a Parks Facilities Maintenance Technician I.

Position Summary

This is an apprentice-level position in the Facilities Division. Under close supervision, this position performs preventive and predictive maintenance of park facilities, including operation of major equipment and assisting with repairs and general upkeep. The Technician I is expected to develop skills and knowledge in all aspects of facility maintenance and may assist higher-level technicians and seasonal staff.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate City vehicles, powered equipment and hand tools for maintenance and repairs.
  • Assist with construction and repair of park structures and amenities.
  • Perform basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and appliance maintenance tasks.
  • Monitor and operate pool and fountain filtration and chemical systems.
  • Complete daily work orders and maintenance logs.
  • Support snow and ice removal operations, including after-hours and weekends.
  • Assist with set up and clean-up for special events.
  • Inspect and clean playgrounds, shelters and public areas.
  • Collaborate with other division staff and assist in other facility maintenance areas as needed to meet operational needs.
  • May lead and coordinate seasonal workers under supervision.

Qualifications

Minimum: High school diploma or G.E.D. OR technical or trade school certification, plus 2-3 years of facility maintenance experience. Must have Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) certification or ability to obtain within two years, and Class B CDL or ability to obtain within one year.

Starting rate of pay is $20.95 to $23.58 per hour dependent on qualifications and directly related experience. The City of Lenexa offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
