Description
The City of Wentzville is seeking a skilled and experienced Parks Construction Technician II to join our dedicated team. This individual will play a critical role in the construction, improvement, and maintenance of park structures and amenities across the city. Building upon Technician I experience, this role involves independent and team-based project work with responsibility for ensuring quality craftsmanship and timely completion of diverse construction assignments.
This position is ideal for a trades professional with journeyman-level experience who enjoys variety, problem-solving, leadership opportunities, and working outdoors on impactful community projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform skilled work across multiple trades including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, welding, roofing, masonry, and equipment operation.
- Execute high-quality concrete work such as forming, pouring, and finishing for structural elements like pads, sidewalks, footings, and columns.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and construction plans to develop efficient and accurate work layouts.
- Assemble, fabricate, or install project materials and components based on construction specifications and requirements.
- Conduct site assessments to determine the necessary materials, equipment, tools, and methodologies.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to fellow technicians and helpers, promoting safety, teamwork, and skill development.
- Assist in project planning and execution, including material procurement, schedule coordination, documentation of labor and material usage, and reporting progress.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, mentoring team members and encouraging professional growth.
- Lead or assist in training, troubleshooting, and daily supervision of assigned work crews.
- Maintain and repair tools and equipment, conducting regular inspections and coordinating needed service or replacement.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and proper handling of hazardous materials.

Qualifications
Job Qualifications – Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or carpentry building trade is required.
- Job-relevant certification/license, completion of a vocational/technical program, or completion of an apprenticeship are preferred.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a First-Aid/CPR certification within 1 year of hire date.
- A valid driverʼs license is required upon hire.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Class A CDL with airbrake endorsement within 180 days of employment is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.
- Strong understanding and knowledge of various construction trades, including concrete work, framing, plumbing, HVAC systems, drywall installation, electrical work, roofing, siding, and masonry.
- Experience in interpreting and working from construction blueprints and/or specifications, working diagrams, GIS data, sketches, schematic drawings, and other construction documents.
- Extensive knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, vehicles, tools, equipment, and safety practices employed in the construction of buildings, park facilities, and aquatic facilities.
- Ability to instruct others in the use of tools and equipment and the occupational hazards of the work.
- Ability to prepare simple reports and to maintain and organize systematic, complete, and accurate records.
- Ability to efficiently organize and prioritize tasks, both routine and complex, to meet deadlines, and when necessary, delegate work effectively to optimize productivity.
- Ability to accept constructive criticism supervision, and demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in new situations.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team atmosphere, as necessary, promoting positive and effective working relationships with staff and external customers.
