Job summary

Indian Trail Parks and Recreation is seeking a part-time Parks Assistant to support field setup, events, and daily park operations. Work hours are typically weeknights from 5 pm to 10 pm and weekends, with seasonal schedule variations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with set-up and preparation of athletic/turf fields (soccer, lacrosse, football, and other activities).
  • Assist with set-up of temporary fence system and daily field prep for baseball/softball games.
  • Assist Parks and Grounds projects including mulching, seeding, and trimming.
  • Perform trail maintenance and debris removal.
  • Perform general duties for park grounds and facilities (cleaning, restrooms, pavilions).
  • Assist with day-to-day operations during summer camps and contracted programs.
  • Assist with Town events (movies nights, parades, trunk-or-treat, etc.).
  • Open and close park facilities and Town Hall as required.
  • Ensure compliance with park rules and safety; assist patrons using facilities.
  • Provide customer service to rental hosts and ensure rental spaces end on time.
  • Assist coaches or leagues with maintenance or supplies as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Job description

Position Summary

This is a part‑time position not to exceed 25 hours per week. This position is not eligible for benefits and requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Work hours will vary depending on the scheduling of park programs and events but would likely be weeknights from 5 pm to 10 pm and daytime or evening hours on weekends.

General Description

Under the direction of the Athletic Coordinator, the Parks Assistant will help in set‑up, break‑down, and supervising a variety of recreational programs, facility rentals, events, and tournaments. The position will also assist with game supervision, trash collection, field preparation, overall organization, and other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with set‑up and preparation of all athletic/turf fields, including soccer, lacrosse, football and additional activities.
  • Assist with set‑up of the temporary fence system and daily field preparations for baseball and softball games.
  • Assist with Parks and Grounds projects including mulching, seeding, and trimming.
  • Perform trail maintenance (clean‑up, debris removal, and mulching).
  • Perform general duties for park grounds and facilities such as cleaning and maintenance of park pavilions, restrooms, and other facility‑related areas.
  • Assist with the day‑to‑day operations during summer camps as well as programming contracted through the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Assist with Town events, including but not limited to movie nights, trunk or treat, parades, and any other planned events.
  • Responsible for opening and closing of park facilities and Town Hall.
  • Work involves ensuring compliance with park rules and regulations; assisting individuals and groups using park facilities and ensuring the safety and security of park patrons.
  • Provide customer service to rental host, assist with clean‑up of rental space and ensure patrons abide by their rental agreement including designated end time for the space.
  • Assist coaches or leagues with other maintenance or supplies as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Education and Experience

The preferred candidate will have a High School Diploma and a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge of the principles and practices of athletic programming; ability to think strategically and work as part of a team; ability to formulate ideas and communicate them clearly both orally and in writing to various levels of management, staff and the public; customer focused: dedicated to meeting internal and external expectations and requirements; acquire information to make improvements in services; promote a culture of teamwork and synergy through collaboration and communication; generate creative and innovative solutions to manage organizational issues and opportunities; maintain and promote professional ethics (i.e., honesty, integrity, respect, fairness, caring) in all conduct; ability to use all required safety equipment and follow all safety regulations, policies and procedures and report all accidents and damages to Town property.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, listen, and use hands to feel or operate objects and reach with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Employee may be required to push, pull, lift and carry 50 pounds. Work involves operating a motorized vehicle. Work is typically performed in an office or outdoors. The employee is exposed to occasional cold or inclement weather.
