The City of Lincolnton is seeking a skilled supervisor for the Parks and Recreation Department to oversee maintenance of parks, grounds, facilities, and cemetery areas. The role requires leadership of full-time and seasonal staff and coordination with contractors on special projects.
You will ensure work adheres to OSHA standards, plan maintenance and repairs, and participate in events and system operations, including pool and cemetery upkeep. Strong supervisory and safety focus is essential.
Performs difficult skilled work supervising and participating in the installation, construction, repair, maintenance and care of municipal park grounds and facilities, ball fields, walking trails, municipal cemetery and all recreation centers and grounds in the City’s Parks and Recreation Department. Assists and participates in special projects and events.

An employee in this class supervises full and part-time staff and seasonal workers in the maintenance and repair of all parks and recreational grounds, buildings, walking trails, ball fields, playgrounds, and cemetery. Employee plans for maintenance, repair, and landscaping activities of park grounds and buildings. The employee assists with pool maintenance, cemetery functions, events, and special projects. The employee ensures that all work is performed according to OSHA standards, rules and regulations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Building and Grounds Superintendent and is evaluated through basis of attainment of individual and work crew objectives, safety of employees, responsiveness to requests and complaints, leadership, reports, conferences, community feedback, and the observation and inspection of park facilities, grounds, and the completion of jobs.
Work is performed primarily in outside environmental conditions including extreme heat and cold with snow and ice. Employee is subject to noise which may cause the employee to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. Employee is subject to vibration, such as exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body. Work subjects the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions in extreme hot and cold weather, loud noises, vibrations, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and oils. Duties may expose the employee to human body fluids, and is subject to OSHA regulations on blood borne pathogens.
Employee is subject to atmospheric conditions due to exposure to fumes, odors, and dusts. This employee may work in close quarters which could cause claustrophobia. The employee must wear hearing/visual protection while performing most field work and may be exposed to Bloodborne pathogens requiring specialized personal protective equipment.
Graduation from high school or GED equivalency and 3-5 years’ experience general grounds and building maintenance with some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in the public or private sector providing the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to adequately perform the essential duties.
