Job summary

Banyule City Council is seeking a Parks and Gardens Officer to maintain and present high-quality parks, gardens and open spaces. The role involves mowing, equipment operation, and collaboration with a skilled team across Open Space Management.

The position is full-time, based in Banyule's parks, with a focus on safety, development, and ongoing learning, including opportunities for career progression within the organisation.

Qualifications

• Hold a valid MR driver’s licence.
• Ability to safely operate vehicles up to 13.9 tonnes GCM.
• Experience operating mowing equipment and horticultural machinery.
• Ability to work effectively in a team.
• Willingness to learn and a positive attitude.
• Pre-employment checks: Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and Functional Capacity Assessment.

We're seeking a motivated and safety-conscious Parks and Gardens Officer (Mower Operator / Truck Driver) to join our Parks Presentation team and help deliver high-quality horticultural services across Banyule's parks, gardens, and open spaces.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Parks and Gardens Officer, you will:

• Maintain high-quality horticultural assets through professional park and garden maintenance practices.
• Operate and maintain mowing equipment and light mechanical plant safely and efficiently.
• Contribute to the presentation and upkeep of Council's parks, reserves, roadsides, and public spaces.
• Support a safe workplace by identifying hazards, following OH&S procedures, and maintaining accurate records.
• Work collaboratively with a dedicated team delivering essential services to the community.

What We’re Looking For

• Demonstrates a commitment to teamwork, safety, and customer service.
• Holds a current Medium Rigid (MR) Driver’s Licence and can safely operate vehicles up to 13.9 tonnes GCM.
• Has experience operating Out Front Mowers and a range of horticultural equipment including brush cutters, blowers, edgers, and hand mowers.
• Has previous experience working effectively within a team environment.
• Brings a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.

Experience operating hedge trimmers, chainsaws, post hole diggers, and other horticultural machinery will be highly regarded.

Pre-employment Requirements

• Current Medium Rigid driver’s licence.
• Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check
• Functional Capacity Assessment

• Salary of $72,697.90 per annum plus super.
• A permanent full-time position with a fortnightly RDO.
• Working Monday to Friday from 7.00am to 3.56pm (during daylight Savings 6.30am to 3.26pm).
• 26 weeks of paid parental leave - primary carer/4 weeks of paid parental leave – partner.
