Parking Enforcement Officer/Ticket Writer

Summary/Objective
The Parking Enforcement Officer/Ticket Writer patrols an assigned area by Township vehicle or on foot to ensure safety and public compliance with existing parking ordinances.

Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Identify vehicles in violation of parking ordinances, checking with the Parking Enforcement Department when necessary to confirm identities or to determine whether vehicles need to be booted or towed.
  2. Issue violations for illegally parked vehicles.
  3. Perform simple vehicle maintenance procedures limited to checking oil and gas, and reporting possible mechanical problems to the Lieutenant.
  4. Document and retrieve information pertaining to vehicle registration, identification, and status.
  5. Provide information to the public regarding parking regulations and facilities, and the location of streets, buildings, and points of interest. Inform the public about policies, services, or procedures related to the Parking Enforcement Department.
  6. Appear in court at hearings regarding contested parking violations.
  7. Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with the public at all times.
  8. Understand and comply with safety, personnel, and other policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to handle and resolve conflicts with citizens professionally
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to learn Parking Enforcement Regulations for Upper Darby Township
  • Ability to pass pre-employment background checks and drug screening
