Job summary

Louisiana Office of State Parks at Lake Claiborne State Park in Homer, LA, seeks a custodian to maintain cleanliness and safety for park visitors. Responsibilities include cleaning interiors and exteriors of cabins, lodges, bathhouses and meeting spaces, performing laundry prep, stocking supplies, and assisting with basic grounds duties.

No prior experience is required. The role operates on a rotating 40-hour schedule, with possible holidays and weekends, and may involve travel around the park.

Responsibilities

• Ensure cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the buildings on site such as cabins, group camps, lodges, bathhouses, meeting rooms, etc. Duties would include but not limited to, disinfecting, changing linens, cleaning bathrooms, mopping, sweeping, dusting, etc.
• Perform any and all custodial duties necessary to maintain clean and sanitary conditions.
• Removes trash and prepares dirty laundry for pickup.
• Stock buildings with cleaning and household supplies such as soap, toilet paper, sanitary supplies, paper towels, etc.
• Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies
• Cleans & picks up litter/trash from bathhouses, campground areas, and day use areas.
• Assists with minor building maintenance such as air filters, light bulbs, etc.
• Assist with grounds maintenance such as mowing, blowing, trail maintenance, etc. as needed.
• Assists customers with questions and concerns.
• Provide park and local community information to customers.

Job description

The Office of State Parks (OSP) serves the citizens of Louisiana and visitors by preserving and interpreting natural areas of unique or exceptional scenic value, planning, developing and operating sites that provide outdoor recreation opportunities in natural surroundings, preserving and interpreting historical and scientific sites of statewide importance and administering intergovernmental programs related to outdoor recreation and trails. This position is located at Lake Claiborne State Park in Homer, LA. The purpose of this position is to perform custodial duties to help maintain cleanliness and a safe environment for the customers. This includes all rental facilities including cabins, group camps, meeting rooms, bathhouses, etc. for indoor and outdoor cleaning, and as needed, assist with minor groundskeeping such as litter pickup, trail cleanup or mowing.

Position-Specific Details

• Location: Lake Claiborne State Park in Homer, LA
• Appointment Type: Probational, Promotion, or Detail to Special Duty
• Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Park Technician A, B, or C. As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled based on the qualifications of the selected applicant. • Work Schedule: State Parks are open 365 days a year. Position will work a rotating schedule of 40 hours/week, which can include holidays and/or weekends as needed, to ensure coverage at the park.
• Travel: Position requires driving around the park as part of the daily shift. Travel may be required to other state parks to assist in staffing or events, as needed. A state vehicle is available for employee use while on duty.
