Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism is seeking a full-time Park Maintenance Worker at Dreher Island State Park. You will perform basic facility, grounds, and equipment maintenance, and assist with carpentry, plumbing, electrical and related projects as needed.

The role requires physical fitness for lifting, walking on uneven terrain, and working outdoors. A valid SC driver's license is required; weekend and holiday hours are included in a rotating schedule.

Qualifications

• Medium to heavy lifting and work on uneven terrain.
• Knowledge of landscaping, grounds keeping and park tools.
• Valid South Carolina Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair park facilities and infrastructure; assist with carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry tasks.
• Perform grounds maintenance and landscaping; assist with larger projects.
• Clean, janitorial and housekeeping duties.
• Maintain and repair vehicles and motorized equipment.
• Identify maintenance needs, plan and schedule tasks; maintain records.
• Assist with administrative and operational requirements.
• Promote teamwork and represent the office on park/agency teams.

Job description

Dreher Island State Park spans three islands, 348 acres and provides access to 12 miles of Lake Murray shoreline. Visitors will find recreational water activities, nature trails and some of the best striped and large-mouth bass fishing spots, all only 30 miles from Columbia. It has long been a popular location and launching spot for major, national fishing tournaments.

Job Purpose and Duties:

• 1) Performs basic facility and infrastructure maintenance, repairs and improvements and assists with more involved tasks and projects (including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, etc.).
• 2) Performs basic grounds maintenance and improvements and assists with more involved tasks and projects (including grounds keeping, landscaping, etc.).
• 3) Performs clean-up, janitorial and housekeeping activities.
• 4) Performs maintenance and basic repairs on vehicles and motorized equipment.
• 5) Assists in identifying maintenance needs, planning & scheduling maintenance activities, and maintaining applicable maintenance records.
• 6) Assists with administrative and operational requirements.
• 7) Practice and promote teamwork within the park and/or region, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.

Additional Requirements:

• 1) Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking, and standing on uneven terrain, crawling, and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents, and other materials and substances used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Position works flexible work schedule, including weekends and holidays.
• 2) Knowledge of landscaping, gardening and grounds keeping. Knowledge of park policies, rules and regulations. Ability to understand technical manuals, bulletins and related instruction. Skill in the use of tools and equipment used in building and grounds maintenance and repair. Ability to read and understand written procedures and directions; ability to perform simple arithmetic computations. Ability to operate a variety of power tools and motorized equipment.
• 3) Must possess a valid South Carolina Driver's License.

Actual Job Location: Dreher Island State Park

Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
