Under general supervision, provides protection for the physical structures located at McGee Park; assists park users by opening designated areas, turning on lights, heat, and P.A. system; patrols park areas to prevent theft, vandalism, fire, and burglary, and to control access to the grounds; notifies the Sheriff's Department in the event of suspected criminal or dangerous occurrences. The Park Security Guard collects, logs, and balances fees received to ensure a compliant cash handling procedure.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent and one (1) year of experience in security or law enforcement.
- Must pass a security background check.
- Valid State of New Mexico Driver's license or able to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
Work Environment and Schedule
- Work is performed in an office and outdoor environment; frequently exposed to wet and humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. Occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level is usually very loud.
- Full-time work hours include nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Rotating schedules and working on religious holidays may be required.
- Utilize, process, and navigate the County’s electronic ERP system as necessary.
Responsibilities
- Patrol the park to provide protection for structures and users; assist users by opening designated areas, turning on lights, heat, and P.A. system.
- Examine doors, windows, and gates to ensure security; conduct patrols every two hours at varying times.
- Inspect equipment and machinery for tampering.
- Handle rental fees, issue receipts, and maintain cash logs, ensuring compliance with cash handling procedures.
- Warn violators, apprehend or expel suspicious persons, and notify law enforcement of serious incidents.
- Report hazards and irregularities, such as fire hazards or security breaches.
- Guard against theft of county property and respond to emergencies by sounding alarms or calling authorities.
- Answer phones, assist the public, and record incidents and property damage.
- Set thermostatic controls, tend furnaces or boilers, and regulate traffic at park entrances.
- Perform related duties, including working at events, pens loose horses, and other tasks as assigned.
