Job description

ARIZONA STATE PARKS AND TRAILS manages and conserves Arizona’s natural, cultural, and recreational resources for the benefit of the public and partners. The agency oversees 30 State Parks and Natural Areas, including programs like the State Trails Program, Grants Program, State Historic Preservation Office, and Off-Highway Vehicle Program. PARK RANGER - SKILLBRIDGE

Must complete a minimum of 8 weeks and up to 6 months of a SkillBridge internship. Must be separating from the Military with at least 180 days of active duty service.

Job Location: Various statewide park locations including Lake Havasu, Parker, Sedona, Payson, Flagstaff, Cornville, Camp Verde, Benson, Safford, Apache Junction, and Tucson.

Posting Details: This is a DOD SkillBridge internship opportunity, lasting up to 6 months depending on the Service Member's availability.

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, performs skilled work in the operation and maintenance of parks, interprets natural or historic features, and enforces safety and park rules.

Job Duties:
  • Infrastructure & Amenities: Maintain park facilities and infrastructure.
  • Public & Staff Safety: Promote safety, enforce rules, coordinate with law enforcement, and communicate via radio.
  • Customer Service: Assist visitors, provide information, and host guests.
  • Cash Handling: Manage transactions at contact stations and gift shops.
  • Maintenance: Perform general maintenance tasks including plumbing, carpentry, landscaping, and electrical work.
  • Water Compliance/Reporting: Ensure safe water and wastewater operations, record and report activities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Interpretation of objects and resources, customer service principles, water/wastewater treatment, park rules, and office procedures.
  • Active listening, communication, driving, and operation of equipment.
  • Ability to de-escalate visitors, perform math, and provide first aid.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years of experience as a Park Ranger Specialist or related customer service roles, or a relevant degree.
  • Combination of training and experience that meets the requirements.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License.
  • CPR/First Aid certification within six months of hire.
