Job summary

The Office of State Parks (OSP) seeks a Park Ranger at South Toledo Bend State Park in Anacoco, LA. The role enforces laws, educates the public, and safeguards natural and cultural resources within the park boundaries.

Location is Anacoco, LA. Appointment type is Probational/Promotion/Detail to Special Duty, with a rotating 40-hour schedule including holidays and weekends. Minimum pay starts at $17.36/hr; POST certification may be required for advancement.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
• Willingness and ability to attain POST certification.
• An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by State and Federal laws is granted.

Responsibilities

• Protects park visitors by enforcing federal, state, and local laws and park rules and regulations.
• Performs emergency duties to protect human life, government property, and natural features of the site.
• Investigates incidents and/or complaints such as vehicular, vandalism, accidents, trespassing, and search/rescue within park boundaries.
• Works with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and district attorneys in arrest and prosecution of individuals.
• Provides security by patrolling and inspecting the site by vehicle, foot patrol, bicycle, and boat.
• Assists overnight guests during their stay by performing customer service duties.
• Provides tourism information and local directions to park visitors and disseminates other information as requested.
• Performs maintenance, custodial, inspections, and/or fee collection tasks as needed.
• Prepares and maintains incident reports, recordings, etc. associated with law enforcement duties.
• Participates and successfully completes required training by the Office of State Parks, including POST Council Certification annually and First-Aid/CPR training.
• Works special details/events within the Office of State Parks in conjunction with federal, state, and local agencies.
