Job description

The County of Riverside seeks candidates to fill positions throughout Riverside County. A list of eligible candidates will be established to fill current and future vacancies.

The Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District is seeking a Park Ranger I/II – Parks, based out of Idyllwild Regional Park, supporting operations at surrounding mountain parks.

Responsibilities

• Assist with visitor services, patrols, maintenance, and enforcement of park rules and ordinances.
• Provide excellent customer service, support fee collection, campground registration, and resolve visitor issues.
• Respond to emergencies, participate in resource protection, and engage in minor construction and grounds maintenance.
• Develop skills in park operations with the goal of advancing to more independent roles.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service, communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
• Supervisory or leadership experience is a plus.
• Experience in a park or campground setting is desirable.
• Familiarity with software such as Microsoft Office, Teams, POS systems, ArcGIS, and basic maintenance knowledge.

Additional Information

Work locations include Idyllwild Regional Park, Hurley Creek Park, and McCall Memorial Equestrian Campground. The work schedule follows a 5/40 pattern with flexibility required for evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Uniforms are provided. The position level (Ranger I or II) depends on experience and qualifications, with opportunities for advancement.

Minimum Requirements

• Experience interacting with the public, including conflict resolution and customer support.
• Within 12 months of employment, valid First Aid, CPR/AED, Basic Water Rescue, and PC 832 certificates are required.

For Ranger II

• Option I: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience.
• Option II: Three years' experience in park operations, with college coursework substituting for experience.
• Option III: One year as a Park Ranger I with Riverside County.

Additional Requirements

• Valid California Driver's License.
• Ability to patrol in various weather conditions and environments.
• Completion of a DOT-mandated alcohol and drug screening may be required.

Knowledge of natural resources conservation, park management, and law enforcement principles is essential. The ability to enforce laws, train staff, maintain records, and communicate effectively is also required.
