Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, Division of Parks and Recreation, seeks a Park Ranger I to protect resources and provide educational programming at South Mountains State Park in Connelly Springs.

This full-time role requires a valid driver’s license, ability to obtain law enforcement certification within 12 months, and readiness to work weekends, holidays, and variable shifts; housing may be available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferably in Parks and Recreation and/or Natural Science from an appropriately accredited institution.
• Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer within 12 months of employment.
• Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and meet state vehicle policies.

Responsibilities

• Research resources at the park and develop resource management plans (prescribed fire, invasive species removal).
• Prepare and conduct environmental interpretation and education programming.
• Perform emergency medical response and rescue in the park and other parks as needed.
• Assist with maintenance of park facilities and operates facilities and programs.
• Issue permits, open/close facilities, and purchase equipment.
