Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) is seeking a Park Ranger I at Pilot Mountain State Park. The role combines natural and cultural resource management with law enforcement, educational programs, and visitor services.

As a commissioned officer, you will patrol, educate visitors, enforce regulations, and supervise seasonal staff. This role includes a Monday–Sunday rotating schedule and potential housing in some assignments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Parks and Recreation and/or Natural Science.
  • Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer within one year of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must pass physical and psychological examinations including drug testing.

Responsibilities

  • Research resources at the park and develop management plans including prescribed fire and invasive species removal.
  • Prepare environmental interpretation and education programming.
  • Perform emergency medical response and rescue in the park and other parks as needed.
  • Assist with maintenance of park facilities and operations.
  • Issue facility permits, open/close facilities, and supervise seasonal staff.
