Job summary

City of Altamonte Springs seeks a dedicated park attendant to patrol, assist visitors, provide first aid, operate park facilities, and support events. You will communicate clearly, report hazards, and help maintain beautification efforts while following safety protocols.

The role requires outdoor work, weekend hours, a valid driver's license, and the ability to use radios. Training will cover emergency procedures, equipment operation, and city policies.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of professional experience in customer service environment or equivalent combination of education/experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends, holidays and outdoors.
• Valid driver license. Must obtain Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct patrols of the park to ensure visitor safety and report significant activity to authorities.
• Offer information on programs, events, and park amenities and provide clear directions to the public.
• Handle visitor inquiries and file incident reports with follow-ups; communicate over radios.
• Provide first aid services to visitors and assist in emergency responses.
• Operate park duty stations, assist with maintenance tasks and basic repairs.
• Provide traffic control along roads/paths and assist in special events setup/strike and closures.
• Assist in park beautification, plant installations, and removal work as required.
• Participate in trainings per City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.

Job description

• Conduct patrols of the park to ensure visitor safety, observe suspicious persons, identify hazardous conditions, detour depreciative behavior among visitors and report any significant activity to the appropriate authorities, assisting when needed.
• Offer detailed information on programs, events, and park amenities while ensuring clear communication of instructions and directions to the public.
• Handle visitor inquires, fill out incident reports to include follow-ups, collect and report user fees.Communicate over hand-held radios.
• Provide first aid services to visitors.
• Operate various duty stations within the park. Includes trashing, restroom maintenance, minor electrical, carpentry and irrigation work.
• Operate small equipment and use of tools in a safe and proper manner. Provide traffic control along the roads/paths.
• Install/remove plants within the park as per permit requires and for aesthetics. Remove trees, chipping branches, pull stumps, clear brush, trim branches and control sediment.
• Assist in the maintenance and beautification of City parks. Be a team player in accomplishing Departmental goals and communicate with supervisors so that community concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
• Assist in the operations of special events, to include set-up, strike, trash pick-up, road closures, park security, area closures, etc.
• Complete required trainings as specifiedwithin the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.
• In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description.
• Drive to and from City work sites. Perform additional duties as assigned. Be available for emergency call-outs.
• Drive the Passenger Tram, when needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• One (1) year of professional experience in customer service environment, or an equivalent combination of education/experience.
• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends, holidays and outdoors.
• Valid driver license. Must obtain Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment.

PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in electrical systems.
• Experience in irrigation systems.
• Experience in plumbing systems.
• Associates degree in Parks, Recreation, Leisure Services or related field.
• Experience as a Security Officer or similar type profession.
• Valid American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid Certification. Must obtain within three (3) months of employment.
• Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies.

Applicants must authorize and undergo Level 2 fingerprint-based state and national criminal history screening. Employees in this position are subject to continuous criminal history monitoring throughout employment.

Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12).

Position is considered at-risk for exposure to Hepatitis B during performance of regular duties. An acceptance/ declination of vaccination form is required.
