Job summary

City of Fort Wayne – Parks & Recreation seeks a Park Person C – Facilities to keep our parks clean and well‑maintained. You’ll manage buildings, facilities, and grounds, and perform a range of janitorial tasks to ensure a safe, welcoming environment for all visitors.

The role requires several years of cleaning experience, hands-on floor care skills, and a valid Indiana driver’s license. You’ll work outdoors in varying weather, with lifting and physical duties integral to daily tasks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
• Four (4) years janitorial and cleaning experience.
• Two (2) years operation of floor care equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintains the general appearance of city parks, buildings, facilities and grounds.
• Performs janitorial work and reports vandalism or repairs needed.
• Cleans floors and restroom fixtures as required.
• Picks up litter and debris from park grounds.

What You'll Do:

• Maintains the general appearance of city parks which include, buildings, facilities and grounds, athletic fields, and ball-diamonds;
• Performs all varieties of janitorial work;
• Reports all vandalism and items in need of repair;
• Cleans, strips, and waxes floors. Dusts, washes walls, and restroom fixtures as required;
• Picks up litter and debris from park grounds.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Four (4) years janitorial and cleaning experience.
• Two (2) years operation of related floor care equipment: floor machine, high speed buffer, carpet extractor, pressure washer, and miscellaneous equipment. Knowledge and use of floor care products and cleaning products;

Required Certifications:

• Valid Indiana Driver's License

Physical Demands:

• Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, lift 75 pounds and carry the weight a minimum of 50 feet, repetitive bending over, heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling usually performed in a non-sitting position with high manual dexterity.
• Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell. Exerts effort for short periods of time, strain is not prolonged.

• Frequent exposure to outside weather
• Seasonal exposure to dust, grass clippings, and pollen
