Job summary

City of San Marcos, Texas seeks a Sergeant (Deputy Marshal) to provide supervisory and operational leadership in the City Marshal’s Department. You will oversee patrols of parks and facilities, enforce ordinances, and coordinate emergency responses to protect patrons and staff.

The role includes supervising staff, managing training, and acting as shift supervisor in the Marshal’s absence to ensure safe operations and consistent enforcement practices.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED and four years law enforcement experience.
• Must be able to swim proficiently.
• TCOLE license at intermediate or higher; must remain current with training.
• Valid Texas driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred in criminal justice or related field.

Responsibilities

• Patrol City facilities, parks, and surrounding areas by various methods to ensure safety and enforce laws.
• Supervise Deputy Marshal staff, including scheduling, reports, and performance evaluation.
• Respond to emergencies and provide initial emergency medical care as needed.
• Oversee FTO program and manage First Responder Organization in compliance with laws.
• Coordinate with other departments and external agencies for incidents and events.
