Job description

Parks & Recreation Department Mission Statement - The City of Independence Parks & Recreation Department is committed to excellence in programming, facilities, and service while improving the quality of life within our community.

The primary responsibility of the City of Independence Park Maintenance is to perform routine maintenance and upkeep of all Recreation Department Park facilities including bathrooms, sports fields, buildings, and grounds.

Employment Details

• Pay rate $12/hr - $14/hr
• Seasonal employment runs through December 1 (dates are flexible based on availability)
• Regular raises for staff that return consecutive seasons
• Work Schedule:
• Park is open 7 days per week
• Available shifts: 8am-8pm; flexible hours available
• Weekends: Some mandatory
• Seasonal 25-40 hours per week
• Training provided

Responsibilities

• Daily cleaning/maintenance duties - litter patrol, trash servicing, grounds maintenance (mulching, planting flowers, watering, power washing, grass cutting, weed trimming), special projects, sports programming
• Interact/respond to supervisor or resident/guest requests as needed

Knowledge and Skills

• Self-motivated
• Decision Making Skills
• Must have a high school diploma
• Must have valid state driver's license
• Must pass a drug test and background check
• Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 50 lbs.

Ability to work outdoors in a mixture of weather conditions and stay on feet for extended periods of time. Successful background check and pre-employment screening required. The City of Independence is a Drug Free Workplace Employer.
