## Description**DeKalb Park District Position Description** **DEPARTMENT:**Parks Planning and Development **TITLE:**ParksMaintenance and Special Projects **CLASSIFICATION:** Seasonal, Non-Exempt **SUMMARY OF POSITION:** Seasonal Maintenance and Special Projects Staff actively participate in the implementation and construction of capital improvement projects occurring within the Park District.**PAY RATE:** $15.00/hour - $18.00/hour**SUPERVISION RECEIVED:** Responsible to the Park Maintenance and Special Projects Team Leader **SUPERVISION EXERCISED:** None. **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**The duties and responsibilities listed below are illustrative only and are not meant to be a full and exhaustive listing of all of the duties and responsibilities of this position.* Assists in the implementation of long and short-term capital project plans occurring within the District.* Assists in incorporating risk management practices and District-wide safety assessments. Complies with overall risk management goals and objectives.* Actively participates in construction projects to include: The installation of playgrounds, shelters and other park amenities; the operation of tools & equipment to perform site excavation, backfill, rough and final grading work; the operation of tools & equipment to perform concrete work, rough & finish carpentry work and other forms of construction work.* Inspects, cleans, and performs routine maintenance of district shelters, restrooms and other park amenities.* Prepares for and works at District special events and activities, and community events.* Picks up litter, collects and disposes of solid waste from District parks and facilities and participates in District recycling activities.* Performs other duties as assigned.**PERIPHERAL DUTIES:*** Participates in district risk management activities and documents daily work activities.* Acts as a resource to other district staff.* Attends District training opportunities.## Qualifications**DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:*** Education and Experience: + High School Diploma, G.E.D. or any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job. + Active participation in the construction field to include performing work in construction trades associated with the construction of buildings and facilities.* Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: + Some general knowledge of building or facility construction. + Some general knowledge and ability to actively participate in building or facility construction projects. + Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule. + Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.**SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:*** State of Illinois driver’s license.* Must be 18 years of age or older.* Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as assigned.**PHYSICAL DEMANDS:** The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
