Job description

The City of Aurora is accepting applications for seasonal job positions at the Phillips Park Maintenance. Positions are available from approximately March through November.

Park Maintenance staff are responsible for providing exceptional conditions for visitors and patrons by performing daily maintenance at City-owned parks. This position requires working early mornings and outdoors in various weather conditions, including evenings and weekends.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Operate mowers and handheld trimmers to maintain turf areas.
• Set up baseball and softball fields daily.
• Perform daily cleanup and garbage collection in high-profile park areas.
• Assist tree crews with chipping branches and debris removal.
• Maintain park sites by picking up litter, branches, and debris.
• Operate equipment to maintain fence lines, tree rings, curbs, and walkways, controlling weeds and overgrown grass.
• Assist with landscape bed and tree maintenance, including mulching, planting, weeding, and trimming.
• Participate in turf restoration and tree planting practices.
• Shovel sand, mulch, soil, and other materials as directed.
• Operate equipment to clear debris from paths and walkways.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Flexible work schedule during high-volume periods, including weekends and evenings.
• Ability to maneuver carts safely and efficiently.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions.
• Operate equipment safely to perform tasks.
• Complete work goals with minimal disturbance to patrons.
• Work independently without constant supervision.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

The hourly wage ranges from $16.71 to $18.80, depending on qualifications.
