Job summary

City of Abilene is seeking Park Worker I/II to perform ground maintenance across right-of-ways, boulevards, vacant lots, municipal grounds, ball fields, and city parks. The role involves operating a variety of equipment, vehicle travel between sites, plant care, and light construction tasks.

Park Worker II may supervise crews, perform minor repairs, and apply pesticides as needed. A valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days is required.

Qualifications

• Ground maintenance or related manual work experience required.
• Ability to read and write at a basic level.
• Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
• Park Worker II requires at least 1 year of ground maintenance experience.
• Hazard training (Bloodborne Pathogen and HazCom) within 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Operate a range of equipment including trucks, mowers, tractors, and other maintenance machinery for parks and grounds.
• Operate City vehicle daily to travel to various sites.
• Water, fertilize, prune, and plant trees, shrubs, and grass; apply pesticides as needed.
• Paint, repair, and transport bleachers and tables; maintain playground equipment and facilities.
• Sweep and clean sidewalks; litter removal; restroom cleaning.
• Assist with light construction work such as fence construction and irrigation repair.
