Job summary

City of Columbia SC is seeking a Recreation Program Coordinator to plan, coordinate, and implement diverse recreational programs for youth, adults, and seniors at the Park Center. The role involves leadership, scheduling, safety oversight, and collaboration with other divisions to expand services.

The ideal candidate will have an Associate’s degree in recreation administration or related field, plus two years of relevant experience, a SC Driver’s License, and CPR/First Aid certifications within

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in recreation administration, performing or visual arts or a closely related field.
• Two years of relevant prior experience.
• Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License.
• CPR and First Aid certifications within six months from date of hire.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and implements Park Center and/or recreational facility programs and events for youth, adults and senior citizens with varying interests, recreational needs and abilities.
• Provides leadership and sets the tone of the facility that encourages and promotes an environment of creativity, attention to detail, friendliness, customer service, and positive staff–participant interaction.
• Ensures participant compliance with established rules and safety standards.
• Instructs groups and individuals in recreational activities as appropriate.
• Evaluates programs for effectiveness; makes recommendations for changes to improve programs, services and participation as appropriate.
• Maintains activity schedules and calendars.
• Monitors attendance and maintains related records; evaluates programs for effectiveness and recommends changes to improve services and programs.

Skills

Two years of relevant prior experience

Valid South Carolina Class D Driver’s 

CPR and First Aid certifications

Education
