Job summary

State of Michigan is seeking a Park and Recreation Ranger to oversee daily operations and supervise staff at Parks and Recreation Division facilities. You will train personnel, maintain grounds, infrastructure and equipment, and handle administrative tasks with minimal supervision.

You will also serve as the worksite safety officer, prioritizing the safety of staff and the public. Attendance at the Parks and Recreation Division Law Enforcement Academy and Ranger Operations Academy is required,

Qualifications

  • Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
  • Three years of park and recreation experience, including one year equivalent to a Park and Recreation Ranger E8.
  • Completion of at least 8 semester (12 term) college credits in natural resources, park management or outdoor recreation may be substituted for one year of experience as a Park and Recreation Ranger-E.
  • Completion of at least 15 semester (22 term) college credits in natural resources, park management or outdoor recreation may be substituted for two years of experience as a Park and Recreation Ranger-E.
  • Some positions may require commission by the Department of Natural Resources to enforce state parks rules and state laws as specified in Public Act 451 of 1994.
  • Some positions within this class series are assigned job duties that may require possession of the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the Secretary of State as required by Public Act 346 of 1988 to operate a designated state vehicle.

Responsibilities

Job description

This position requires the employee obtain and maintain a DNR Law Enforcement Commission

As a requirement for this position, attendance at the Parks and Recreation Division Law Enforcement Academy and Ranger Operations Academy is required. These are two separate trainings typically totaling 12 weeks with courses intended to increase your physical ability to handle incidents, increase your knowledge of Parks & Recreation Rules as well as park operations. These trainings will require overnight stays in / at a learning facility.
