Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission is seeking a Park Aide for the 2026 winter season at Fields Spring State Park in Asotin County. The position runs November through March with flexible start and end dates.

Responsibilities include assisting visitors, maintaining facilities, and performing grounds and snow-related tasks as needed. This non-permanent role requires physical labor in all weather, weekend availability, and a valid driver’s license.

Job Title: Park Aide (Winter Season)

Location: Anatone, WA

This recruitment will be used to fill a non-permanent Park Aide position located at Fields Spring State Park, for the 2026 winter season. This position is available from November through March; however, the start and finish date may vary.

This position is not eligible to telework, as physical in-office presence is required to perform essential functions.

Washington has a variety of state parks and activities including day-use, camping, interpretive centers, environmental learning centers, sno-parks and more! The more than 100 State Parks are spread across the state, from sandy coastal beaches and sheltered Puget Sound islands to sun-soaked lakes and lava flows east of the Cascade Mountains. The number of vacancies will vary from park to park.

Fields Spring State Park (located in Asotin County) is a 792-acre, forested park open year-round. Located in the Blue Mountains of southeastern Washington, Fields Spring has several miles of hiking, biking, and running trails, as well as campsites, lodges, teepees, and a cabin for overnight guests. Winter activities include cross-country ski trails, a tubing hill and snowshoeing. Fields Spring has a diversity of wildflowers, native trees and plants, wildlife, and birds, and is located near popular hunting and fishing areas in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Park housing is available.

Park Aide Recruitment Video - Typical Day - Washington State Parks

Under the supervision of the Park Ranger, Park Aides perform a variety of tasks at a State park, beach or historical area. A typical work day may include anything from registering campers and collecting camp fees, to cleaning facilities, shoveling snow, snow removal, mowing lawns, or explaining park rules. The specific duties will have some variation by park location.

Duties

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

• Provide park information to visitors and answer phones.
• Maintain park facilities through light routine maintenance and janitorial services.
• Perform grounds maintenance work, such as cutting grass, weeding flower beds, pruning shrubs, raking leaves, and picking up litter.
• Maintain park lawns using a mower, weed eater, trimmer, and various maintenance tools.
• Register campers, collect, sort and count revenue; prepare bank transmittals and deposits.
• Perform daily garbage collection and litter control.
• Clean restrooms and stock cleaning supplies.
• Clean rental properties and perform general housekeeping duties including washing windows, scrubbing floors, mopping, and sweeping.
• Drive light truck or other state vehicle to transport supplies and equipment within the park area; haul refuse and garbage.

At Winter Recreation parks, additional duties may include:

• Remove snow from walkways using snow shovels or small power equipment.
• Maintain trails by pruning shrubs, assisting sawyers with fallen trees, and operating snowmobile-towed trail grooming equipment.
• Operate snow removal equipment to maintain roads and parking lots.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be at least 17 years old.
• Valid unrestricted (except for corrective lenses) driver's license – If your DL is out of state (other than WA State), you will be required to show proof of a valid and current unrestricted driver's license at the time of the interview.

• Ability to learn about equipment servicing, diagnosing, and maintenance.

REQUIREMENTS:

Uniform Information: All non-permanent Park Aides are required to wear a uniform. A complete and properly worn uniform helps establish the professional identity of a Park Aide and promotes respect as a Washington State Parks employee. All non-permanent Park Aides will receive 2 shirts, 1 baseball cap, and a clothing stipend of $75.00 per calendar year. Some position may qualify for a $150 clothing stipend depending on the length of the position. Clothing stipends are intended to offset the cost of clothing worn in the workplace such as pants, boots, raingear, etc.

Working Conditions: Work schedule will vary based on season dates. This position works primarily in a park or field setting including indoor and outdoor work environments. Tasks vary which require attending to customer service and maintenance needs in various weather conditions including inclement weather and work must be performed in all types of terrain. This position may be required to travel periodically between parks and/or statewide for meetings, training, and other field work, overnight. Travel will be necessary in all types of weather conditions and climates.
