Job summary

ST JOSEPH CHURCH in Lakeland, FL seeks a Parish Catechetical Leader to oversee the parish’s catechetical ministry, plan formation programs for all ages, coordinate sacraments, and align with diocesan standards.

Under the Pastor's direction, you will recruit and train catechists, manage records and budgets, and communicate program milestones to parishioners and diocesan stakeholders for lifelong Catholic formation.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Theology, pastoral studies, religious education, or related field preferred.
• At least three years of ministry experience in a parish or diocesan role preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
• Must pass diocesan Safe Environment requirements and background screening.
• Bilingual ability (English/Spanish or another language) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develops goals, objectives, and strategies for a comprehensive catechetical program serving all ages, including sacraments preparation.
• Develops and implements a coherent parish curriculum and plan in coordination with the pastor and staff.
• Directs catechetical programs supporting lifelong discipleship in line with Church teaching and diocesan guidelines.
• Recruits and trains catechists and volunteers; ensures Safe Environment compliance.
• Manages administrative functions: sacramental records, registrations, and program data.
• Oversees budget development and reporting; collaborates with parish leadership on annual planning.
• Communicates program milestones and resources via bulletin, website, and social media.
• Keeps current with diocesan policies and serves as a catechetics resource for staff and parish.
• Participates in professional associations related to catechetics and ongoing credential maintenance.
