QUALIFICATIONS

Current Minnesota PELSB license in appropriate area preferred and/or required: Parent Education and Family Education

POSITION SUMMARY

Parent Educators provide a key component of Early Childhood and Family Education programming. In this role, you are responsible for the design and facilitation of evidence-based curricula within individual and group discussions that support caregivers in learning about their child's development, critical milestones, and future success. Understanding that parent-child bonds are vital for child success. In addition to supporting classroom learning, parent educators play a role in our programs' community connections, collaborating with local partners to ensure all families have resources. Key responsibilities within this role vary based on specific class/program assignments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction & Facilitation
  • Curriculum Design: Prepare and present relevant, current parenting information tailored to the varied interests, learning styles, and specific needs of diverse groups.
  • Group Leadership: Demonstrate strong group process skills to facilitate discussions that encourage the exploration of parenting issues, skills, and child development.
  • Educational Materials: Author and curate relevant parenting handouts and resources that translate complex developmental concepts into accessible, actionable guidance.
  • Environment Management: Prepare and maintain a physical and social environment that is safe, inclusive, and conducive to the optimal growth of both parent and child.
Family Engagement & Support
  • Parental Consultation: Confer with parents in both group and individual settings; provide home visits or personalized consultations as needed to address specific family dynamics.
  • Modeling & Observation: Observe parent-child interactions and model appropriate, positive engagement techniques to strengthen family bonds.
  • Kindergarten Transitions: Provide critical transition information and support to families as they navigate the move from early childhood programs into kindergarten.
  • Professional Referrals: Identify family needs and facilitate appropriate referrals to community resources, health services, or specialized district supports.
Collaboration & Community Outreach
  • Integrated Programming: Collaborate closely with Early Childhood staff to align parent education topics with children’s classroom lessons and developmental goals.
  • Outreach Partnership: Work in tandem with the Community Outreach Parent Educator to deliver services to underrepresented populations and neighborhood hubs.
  • Resource Networking: Connect with area agencies and partners to share information, expand program reach, and stay current on community-based supports.
  • Team Participation: Actively participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), staff meetings, and required in-service training.
Compliance & Professional Standards
  • Safety & Advocacy: Act as a Mandated Reporter, strictly adhering to State, Federal, and Agency policies regarding the suspected abuse or neglect of children.
  • Data Integrity: Maintain detailed and accurate records of attendance, conferences, home visits, and program visitors.
  • Inclusive Professionalism: Treat all parents, children, and colleagues with unwavering respect and dignity, fostering a culture of belonging.
  • Clear Communication: Ensure all program plans, progress, and expectations are communicated clearly and directly to all stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
  • A Minnesota Teaching License in Parent Education and Family Education is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in parent and family education, early education, or related field
