Job summary

Position Overview

The successful candidate will be an individual who firmly believes:

  • All students can and will learn, and that their learning can be directly influenced by focusing on factors over which we have control;
  • In the need to work interdependently with teachers, school, and district leaders throughout the system, aligning the work of adults around improving student learning by meeting the needs, interests, and aspirations of students;

  • In meeting students' academic, social, and emotional needs and aspirations so that each student feels valued and has a sense of belonging, leading to academic success
Position Purpose

The ECFE parent educator will plan, organize and implement quality parent education for assigned ECFE classes and possess a strong ability to interact and communicate with both parents and children. This position is considered exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Primary Responsibilities

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Research curriculum for parents in accordance with overall program policies and philosophies. Submit yearly curriculum plans and weekly lesson plans to the Coordinator.
  • Keep the ECFE/SR coordinator informed on curriculum materials to expand and improve professional resources.
  • Develop and implement a curriculum that includes topics selected by parents, topics selected by educator and open discussion.
  • Plan according to learning styles and cultural/socioeconomic differences.
  • Provide 1-2 parent group speakers each year based on parent interest.
  • Responsible for parent room prep, clean up and room arrangement.
  • Responsible for parent room supplies and placing needed items on the shopping list.
  • Make referrals to coordinator as needed for special assistance or community resources.
  • Connect with parents and children in the classroom before and after parent discussion.
  • Copy family immunization records and complete participant forms with each family when needed.
  • Serve as a model for parents when working with young children.
  • Stay current on parent/family issues.
  • Remain current with CPR and first aid.
  • Meet individually with parents as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Complete timesheets by posted dates.
  • Assist in public relations and outreach services as needed.
  • Follow discipline policy and all district program policies.
  • Observe confidentiality.
  • Call coordinator at home if you are unable to work due to illness providing ample time for coordinator to get a sub.

Preferences

We strongly prefer candidates who have exhibited excellence in collaboration with colleagues, commitment to ECFE program philosophies, and an enthusiasm for working with students. Preferred candidates will also have a demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning as evidenced by graduate-level work or an earned degree, as well as participation in professional organization conferences or seminars related to the content area.Previous experience working with early childhood learners and diverse learners preferred. Preferred candidates will have demonstrated the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

    • Interact and communicate effectively with parents and children
    • Implement and supervise programming for early childhood classrooms
    • Plan and organize work
    • Self-motivate and work individually or in a group setting
    • Lift and move materials or equipment and hold children typically < 50 pounds
    • Walk 1 mile
    • Work in indoor and outdoor settings
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Qualifications

Licensing Requirements

Current Minnesota Parent Educator license or eligibility, CPR and first aid certification is required.

Salary and Benefits

The starting pay for this position is $33.86. Your initial placement is dependent on your qualifications (education and years of relevant experience).
