Overview

KY-SPIN, Inc. is seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable individuals to join our team in a part-time peer support role. This position is ideal for someone with lived experience navigating disability systems and a passion for empowering families of children/youth with disabilities.

Position Overview

The Parent Educator will serve as the point of contact for families with children/youth with disabilities. KY-SPIN is seeking individuals who live in the following areas of Kentucky: eastern, western, north eastern, and south central.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide peer-to-peer support to families of children with disabilities, helping them meaningfully participate in their child’s education
  • Assist families in navigating early intervention (IFSP), special education (IEP), and 504 processes
  • Help parents become effective advocates for their children by offering guidance, training, and support
  • Connect families to valuable community resources, services, and supports
  • Represent KY-SPIN at regional and statewide events
  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with clients, staff, partners, and board members
  • Support the planning and implementation of statewide events and workshops
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management
Prerequisites
  • This is a peer support position: Must be an individual with a disability, or a parent/caregiver/immediate family member of someone with a disability
  • Kentucky resident
  • Knowledge of IDEA Part B (ages 3–21, KY public school systems/IEP) and/or Part C (birth–3, KEIS/IFSP)
  • Familiarity with disability rights, systems navigation, and inclusive practices
  • Standard high school diploma or GED required
  • Must be able to pass a background screening
  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel statewide
Position Requirements
  • Positive, outgoing, and approachable self-starter with strong work ethic
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Docs and Sheets, and able to complete required documentation
  • Stable internet access and ability to work remotely
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Must be available to work 20-25 hours per week, Monday-Friday typically between 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM CST / 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST, with occasional adjustments to accommodate family schedules
