Job summary

East Haven Public Schools is seeking a part-time Parent Educator for the Adult Education program. The role focuses on family engagement, home visiting for families with children birth through five, and connecting families to resources that promote development and school readiness.

You will lead playgroups, workshops, and community-based activities, working 5–10 hours per week with day and night shifts. A valid driver’s license and strong communication skills are required.

Job Title: Parent Educator
Status: Part Time (10 Month position) 5 - 10 Hours Per Week Hours will be a split between day and night shifts each week

Reports to: Supervisor or Designee

Location: Adult Education
Hourly Rate: $45.00

Position Summary

The Parent Educator leads the implementation of family engagement and home visiting services for families of children ages birth through five (5). This position is responsible for building strong relationships with families and providing education, support, and connection to resources that promote healthy development and school readiness. The Parent Educator delivers services through home visits, playgroups, parent workshops, and community-based programming.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Human Services, or a related field preferred; Associate's degree with relevant experience will be considered
  • Must have 3+ years of experience in child development/instructional field
  • Parents as Teachers (PAT) certification preferred or willingness to obtain required certifications
  • Experience working with infants, toddlers, and families in early childhood settings preferred
  • Experience in home visiting, parent education, or working with families preferred
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with families and community agencies
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and work independently
  • Working knowledge of Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive) and data systems (e.g.
    Cayen) for documentation and reporting
  • Valid motor vehicle driver's license

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and lead weekly playgroups for families with young children to support early
    learning and social development
  • Organize and coordinate family events, workshops, and educational opportunities aligned
    to Family Resource Center goals
  • Collaborate with community partners to connect families to resources, including:
    • English as a Second Language (ESL) classes
    • Parenting education programs
    • Medical, social, and family support services
  • Serve as a liaison between families and schools/programs, supporting communication,
    engagement, and access to services
  • Actively participate in East Haven Community Table meetings and initiatives to support
    community-wide planning and family engagement efforts
  • Build and maintain relationships with local family child care providers, offering support,
    resources, and connections to FRC programming
  • Implement the Connecticut Framework for Family-School Partnerships to strengthen
    family engagement practices
  • Support families in developing knowledge of child growth, development, and school
    readiness
  • Promote strong school-family-community partnerships through outreach, collaboration,
    and engagement activities
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor that support the mission and
    goals of the Adult Education Program
  • Maintain accurate documentation of services and complete all required data entry and
    reporting in a timely manner

    calculator with speed and accuracy for long periods of time.
  • Ability to concentrate on detail and issue with some interruption, pressure and changing
    priorities.
  • Memory to perform multiple and diverse tasks over long periods of time and the ability to
    remember information that has been previously learned.
  • Ability to use knowledge and reasoning to solve routine problems.
  • Ability to learn and apply new information, technology and legislation applicable to
    departmental activities.
