Job summary

Antech Diagnostics in Portland, Oregon is seeking a Parasitology Laboratory Technician I to perform lab analyses, prepare samples, set up instruments, run tests, and read, interpret, and release results. This role supports quality control and operates under SOPs with safety standards.

This full-time night-shift position offers an hourly target pay rate of $18.80, with responsibilities including setting up tests, reporting results, and assisting senior staff as needed in a fast-paced lab

Qualifications

High school diploma required; science degree or vet tech experience preferred.
Prior lab experience preferred.
Laboratory skills with ability to set up, run, and read lab tests.
Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology, parasitology procedures, and familiarity with a microscope.
Detail-oriented and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Set up, run, read, and release lab tests.
Meet minimum reading/releasing rates for Para and Giardia.
Evaluate and report results with sound judgment.
Perform equipment maintenance.
Follow SOPs and safety/quality procedures.
Maintain clean, stocked work area.
Cross-train for other duties as needed.
Consult with senior peers on non-complex tasks.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Schedule: 11pm - 7:30am Monday - Friday with rotating Saturdays

The Target Pay Rate for this position is $18.80 hourly

Job Purpose/Overview

The Parasitology Laboratory Technician 1 performs laboratory analyses and tests. In addition, they prepare samples, set up instruments, run tests and read, interpret, and release results

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Sets up, runs, reads, and releases lab tests.
Meet all minimum department requirements for Para and Giardia reading/releasing rates.
Exercises judgment in evaluating and reporting results.
Performs equipment maintenance activities.
Awareness of quality control and calibration.
Assists lead or supervisor with rechecks as directed.
Follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures.
Maintains clean and organized work area. Restocks supplies
May be cross trained to perform other duties, such as performing less complex tests, including duties performed by Para Aide. Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
Consult with senior peers on non-complex Parasitology tasks to learn through experience.
Performs other duties as assigned

Education And Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required, Science degree or vet technician experience is preferred. Prior lab experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests and operating lab instruments preferred.
Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology, Parasitology procedures, equipment, and familiarity with a microscope preferred
General science background
Attention to detail and organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
The ability to communicate information so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations

Working Conditions

Stationary Position- must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours.
Constantly operates a computer and other lab equipment accurately and efficiently.
Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch
Required to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs.
The ability to observe details at close range
Extended hours may be needed
Sitting for extended periods of time
Laboratory environments with potential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE
Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new assignments
Work under close to moderate supervision.
Potential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards. A complete list of such chemicals is available from department supervision.
