Job summary

Antech Diagnostics in Orlando, FL is seeking a Parasitology Laboratory Technician to perform analyses, prepare samples, set up instruments, run tests, read results and release findings.

This role requires a high school diploma; lab experience preferred. You will follow SOPs, maintain equipment, and support senior staff while learning related parasitology tasks.

Job description

Schedule: 11:30pm—8am Monday - Saturday (5 days)

The Target Pay Rate for this position is $19.66 hourly. At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.

Job Purpose / Overview

The Parasitology Laboratory Technician performs laboratory analyses and tests. In addition, they prepare samples, set up instruments, run tests and read, interpret, and release results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Sets up, runs, reads and releases lab tests.
  • Meets all minimum department requirements for parasitology and Giardia reading/releasing rates.
  • Exercises judgment in evaluating and reporting results.
  • Performs equipment maintenance activities.
  • Maintains awareness of quality control and calibration.
  • Assists lead or supervisor with re-checks as directed.
  • Follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including safety and quality procedures.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area and restocks supplies as needed.
  • May be cross-trained to perform other duties, such as less complex tests performed by a Parasitology Aide.
  • Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
  • Consults with senior peers on non-complex parasitology tasks to learn through experience.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required; a science degree or veterinary technician experience preferred. Prior laboratory experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests and operating lab instruments.
  • Knowledge of medical and laboratory terminology, parasitology procedures, equipment, and familiarity with a microscope.
  • General science background.
  • Attention to detail and organized, with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills to convey accurate information.
  • Positive, can-do attitude.
  • General computer skills.
Working Conditions
  • Stationary position – must remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other lab equipment accurately and efficiently.
  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch.
  • Required to lift, move and carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to observe details at close range.
  • Extended hours may be needed.
  • Sitting for extended periods.
  • Laboratory environments with potential biohazards, mitigated by mandatory use of personal protective equipment.
  • Receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new assignments, works under close to moderate supervision.
  • Risk of exposure to agents that can cause zoonotic disease and hazardous chemicals, as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards.
